Biography

Trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, John’s professional career started in the spring of 1964, playing in Shakespeare at Regent’s Park and on tour in Pakistan, India and the Far East.

Feature films include Michelangelo Antonioni’s BLOW UP with Vanessa Redgrave, THE LION IN WINTER with Katherine Hepburn and Peter O’Toole, MAN OF LA MANCHA with Sophia Loren and Peter O’Toole, KING DAVID with Richard Gere, ANTHONY AND CLEOPATRA with Charlton Heston, ROBOCOP 2 and Franco Zeffirelli’s THE SPARROW.

Theatre credits include BLOODY SUNDAY at The Tricycle Theatre directed by Nick Kent. Claudius in HAMLET for Richard Eyre at The Royal National Theatre, Tom in Tom Kempinski’s WHEN THE PAST IS YET TO COME at The Finborough Arms, ZANNA at The Greenwich Theatre, RAT IN THE SKULL at The Duke of York’s, and END GAME at The Tron Theatre, Glasgow. Shylock in THE MERCHANT OF VENICE for the London Shakespeare Group, Sean Mathias’s INFIDELITIES with Jill Bennett at The Boulevard Theatre, Alan Turing in Hugh Whitemore’s BREAKING THE CODE at The Comedy Theatre, Bolingbroke, Henry IV, Pistol, The Duke of York and James Tyrell in the English Shakespeare Company’s productions of THE WAR OF THE ROSES.
