John is a BAFTA nominated writer and past winner of the Tom Erhardt Award, the PMA Award for Best New Writer and the NSDF Sunday Times Playwriting Award.
His plays include THE PASS (Royal Court), a version of THE SEAGULL (Headlong/UK Tour), LITTLE RUSSIANS (Tricycle Theatre/ First Blast: Proliferation Season), THE KNOWLEDGE (Bush Theatre), ENCOURAGE THE OTHERS (Almeida Projects), SONGS OF GRACE AND REDEMPTION (Liminal Theatre/Theatre 503), SHOWTIME (LAMDA), CONVERSATION #1 (The Factory/V&A/Latitude Festival) and BONE (Royal Court Theatre). THE PASS, THE KNOWLEDGE, SONGS OF GRACE AND REDMPTION and BONE are all published by Faber. LITTLE RUSSIANS is published by Oberon Books.
For television he has written a short film, HENRY for Channel 4’s COMING UP which was broadcast in July 2013. John has also co-written two episodes of UTOPIA (Kudos/Channel4) which broadcast in July 2014 and an episode of GLUE (Channel 4/Eleven Films) which broadcast in late 2014.
John also adapted his stage play THE PASS for screen, produced by Duncan Kenworthy/Toledo Productions and starring Russell Tovey and Arinze Kene. The film opened the BFI Flare Festival in March 2016 and later returned to the BFI London Film Festival in October 2016. John and the film’s director, Ben A. Williams, were BAFTA nominated for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
Most recently, John’s new version of Moliere’s comic masterpiece TARTUFFE ran at the Lyttleton, National Theatre, directed by Blanche McIntyre with Denis O’Hare, Olivia Williams and Kevin Doyle.
John is currently working on a new play for Headlong and is also under commission with the National Theatre. For screen, John is working with Number 9 Films on a feature and is working on TV projects with Fearless Minds Productions, The Lighthouse and eOne/Sugar Films.
