Morna Regan is from Derry City and now living in London. She studied at Queen Mary Westfield UL and the CSSD and was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to undertake an MFA in Theatre at USC Los Angeles. She worked for many years as a professional actor performing in the Donmar, Hampstead, Kennedy Centre, Long Wharf and the Celtic Arts Centre LA, as well as the Irish National stages.
For television, Morna is currently writing three episodes of a new six part series for RTE/Saffron Moon. She is also developing original series with Red, Moonage Pictures, Bryncoed Productions and Objective Productions and was commissioned to adapt Doris Lessing's THE FIFTH CHILD for screen. Morna was selected for the first BBC Drama Room in 2016 and was named in the BBC New Talent Hotlist 2017.
In theatre, Morna’s play THE HOUSE KEEPER was produced by Rough Magic in Dublin and won the Irish Times Best New Play Award and a Writer’s Guild Best Play award. Her play MIDDEN played at The Hampstead Theatre and won an Edinburgh Fringe First, an Irish Times Best New Play Nomination and the Heidelberg European Author’s Award.
For film, her first full-length script AWAY FROM THE SUN was developed with assistance from the Irish Film Board. Her half hour film THE CASE OF MAJELLA MCGINTY was produced by Ed Guiney and directed by Kirsten Sheridan winning Best Short at the Derry, Cork and Galway, San Francisco, Houston and Cologne Film Festivals and was nominated for an Irish Film and Television Award.
Dramaturgy work includes Script Consultant on the Young Vic’s recent production of Wedekind’s SPRING AWAKENING, Dramaturg on KATIE ROCHE for the Abbey Theatre Dublin, and Dramaturg and Lyricist on THE TAMING OF THE SHREW in the Globe Theatre 2016.
